Marty Callahan and her husband Jim moved to South Carolina five years ago. She is proud of her heritage, being born and raised in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. As a youngster, she says she was always drawing or painting just for fun or to get a better grade on her reports. After graduating from the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, they moved to Fairfax County, Virginia, where Marty taught English and took art classes at night.

After her two children were born, she gave up her art because she says, “There was no time for such dalliances with her husband working most every night to establish his financial retirement planning career.”

It was here in Pawleys Island that Marty once again picked up her paint brush. She started taking oil painting lessons from Jim Dyson at the Cultural Exchange and attended several other workshops in the area. Her realistic style reflects the beauty of the area with its many opportunities for subject matter. She feels her passion for art has been reborn.
